これ、見出しなんで、動詞が現在形になってるんすかね。まあ、新聞なんかでは、過去のこ
とでも現在形をつかうってルールがありますが、まあこの例はどうなんでしょうか。下の文
では現在完了形が使われていますが、has toppedが見出しのためにtopになったんでしょうか。
で、このtop、名詞じゃないっすよ。動詞ですよ、どうし。なになにをこえるって意味、辞
書にのってるとおもいます。
で、Mainland Chinaは中国本土、new coronavirusは新型のコロナウイルスです。case、
これしってますか？箱じゃないっすよ。患者って意味です。Mainland’s new coronavirus
casesがまあ主語に相当する部分で、意味は、「中国本土における新型コロナウイルスの患
者が」ってとこでしょうか。
全体で、中国本土における新型コロナウイルスの患者が４万をこえたっていみですね。まあ
動詞の現在形にあわせて「こえる」にしたほうがいいかもしれませんが。

てひとはやばいですね。英文解釈やる前に文法書一冊やってください。簡単なやつでいいん
で。ぶっとい辞書みたいなものもありますが、うすくて終わらせられるやつでじゅうぶんで
す。というか、ネットで検索したら文法用語みつかるので本もいらないかもしれないすね。

まあ、ここでは節ってのは主語と述語をふくむかたまりみたいな感じの理解でいいとおも
います。Chinese authorities sayはChinese authoritiesが主語 sayが述語です。the
number of confirmed cases of new coronavirus in mainland China has topped 40,000は
長いんで、何が主語で何が述語かわかりにくいですが、どうすか？楽勝ですか？げきむずで
すか？楽勝なかたはいんですが、わからない人も別に気にする必要はまったくないですね。
こういうのは慣れなんで、すぐできるようになります。で、主語はthe number of confirmed
cases of new coronavirus in mainland Chinaで、has toppedが述語です。主語といって
も、使い方がいろいろあるので、おおざっぱにやってますが、主部のうち中心的なものって
限定した場合、この節の主語はnumberになると思います。まあthe numberはＤＰであ
ってtheのほうがnumberより主要って考えもあるようですが、ここではそういう議論は
きにする必要まったくなっしんぐですね。

きましょう。in mainland Chinaは中国本土でという意味でにかかります。まあ文法用語を
使うとin mainland Chinaって形容詞句でcasesにかかります。まあconfirmed cases of
new coronavirusにかかるっていってほうがいいかもしれませんが。
of confirmed cases of new coronaviruのconfirmedは確認されたって意味で、casesにか
かっています。さきほどcaseは患者っていいましたが、感染者、新型コロナにかかってい
る人ととったほうがいいかもしれません。で、cases of new coronavirusで新型コロナに感
染した人なので、of confirmed cases of new coronavirusで「新型コロナの感染が確認され
たひとの」って意味でしょうね。これは全体で形容詞句になってて、numberあるいはthe
numberにかかっています。

主節のぶぶんのChinese authoritiesは少しむずかしい単語かもしれないですね。まあ、知
ってる人は知ってると思いますが。the authoritiesで当局って意味があるので、これは中
国当局という意味でいいとおもいます。中国当局はなになにと言っているって感じですね。
全体で、「中国当局は、中国本土での新型コロナウイルスの感染が確認された人の数が４万
をこえたと発表した」ってかんじでしょうか。まあ動詞の形が現在形なんで、「中国当局の
発表によれば、中国本土での新型コロナウイルスの感染が確認された人の数が４万をこえ
ました」みたいにしてもいいのかもしれません。

ませんが、まあ、次の文を解釈していきます。

これ分詞構文ですね。bringingなになにって部分があるので。Health officials in Chinaは
防疫官って訳語があるみたいですが、衛生担当、保健担当の政府職員ってことでしょう。で、
彼らが、3,062 more people were found to be infected on Sunday と言っているということ
ですが、to be infectedは不定詞の副詞用法で、were foundにかかっていると思いますが、
用法はわかりにくいですね。なんなんでしょうか。まあ意味は、「感染していることがわか
った」という意味だと思いますが。
bringingは分詞で用法は結果っすね。その結果、全死亡者数が４万１７１人になったって
ことです。
全体の意味は、「中国の保健当局は、日曜日、さらに３０６２人の感染が確認されたと発表
し、全体の死亡者数は４０１７１人となりました」ってかんじでしょうか。

このｂｙって前置詞、程度とか差異のbyでしょうね、「なになにだけ」って意味の。９７人
死亡者数が増えて、その結果全体の死亡者数が９０８人になったってことでしょう。toは
結果のtoだと思います。辞書の例文にThe death toll has risen to 83.　って文があって、
意味は「死亡者数は８３人に上った」になるんですが、ここでは、riseとtoの間にby 97
がはいっているということでしょう。

fatalityって語がちょっとむずかしいですね。複数形で死んだ人って意味になるようです。
in Hubei Provinceは湖北省でという意味です。of the reported fatalitiesは形容詞句でa
large numberにかかっています。occurredが述語ですが、この意味は「見いだされた」に
近い意味でしょうか。ちょっとむずかしいですね。

全体の意味は、「全死者数は９７名増えて９０８名となりました。報告された死亡者の
大部分は湖北省です」ってところでしょう。

英文解釈やってみましたがめんどうですね。もうやんないかもしれないですね。
